While I was making a left turn, a speeding car going straight came out of nowhere and crashed into my car. Why was I given the ticket for failing to yield to the right of way?

The person making the left turn has the duty to yield the right of way. Being cited does not mean you will be found guilty of the charge.  You have the right to fight the citation in Court.  Particularly in a car accident causing personal injury, you need a civil reservation in order to avoid the results of the municipal court matter being used against you in a subsequent civil case.
