What are you spending your money on, son?
You made the tough choice to come to the United States chasing a dream, and you settled with just surviving.
I would like to tell you something.
We lived through the whole 2020 locked up, with fear, without knowing what would happen. In that time, my grandmother got really sick in Chile and I couldn’t go to see her.
She died a couple days later.
Let me tell you something.
I was really young when I arrived to the United States with a clear purpose: Getting my “Green card” and finally getting my citizenship. Despite having many things against me, I achieved my goals. Thanks to that I can enter and leave the country freely at any time. The only exception was the pandemic.
Without COVID I could have gone to visite her and say goodbye, but that couldn’t beand it still hurts just to think about it.
Your grandmother, like mine, saw you leave with the hope that you would get the lifeyou’ve dreamed of so many times. You have lived through terrible experiences and gonethrough many moments of uncertainty and anguish, just to be where you are today.

I know, because I went through that, too.
But there is something that you haven’t done yet, and if your grandmother knew, she would ask the same question I asked you at the beginning of this letter, and she would be angry about it.
How is it possible that you have formed a life in the UnitedStates and are still not legal?
For this reason, shortly after arriving in New Jersey, my family and I appliedto start the process of our Green Cards
You still have time!
You know we already talked about your case.
You know you have options to start the process and achieve results.
You know that you owe it to yourself, your children, and the family you left behind for the courage to try everything. And you already know that it is not a matter of money. It is a matter of priorities.
Do you remember when you bought that $2,000 television? It could be a TV, a cell phone, a hitch for a car, or any other superficial expense.
Well, for a little more than that, you could have already started the process for your “Green Card” to live with the peace of mind that it gives you, make the right decisions and wisely invest the money you work for and sacrifice so hard to earn.

Sadly, the wolf might come.
I don’t want to be rude, but the wolf is just around the corner, like in the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.
You have told yourself so many times that the wolf is coming that you have gotten used to thinking that it will never come, and that is why you have not started your process.
But my duty as a lawyer, as your representative before the state, is to tell you that the wolf comes in the form of denunciations, deportations, and changes in the legislation.
A wolf like Trump.
In 2024 he will stand for election again and may win. If that happens, the laws for us will become tougher again.A process lasts, on average, about two years, so now is the time to apply before a wolf returns that you already know no mercy on immigrants.
I’m not going to tell you what to spend your money on, nor if you should invest more than $10,000 in your daughter’s “quinceañera” – which is the money that costs, on average, a legalization process.

It is not too late!
I just want to remind you that life is very short, that the most important thing is our family and that if you don’t play by the rules, the wolf will come for you sooner than you imagine.
Is it worth continuing to run the risk of seeing your family separated, that your children lose the opportunity to grow up in a country full of opportunities and that everything you have built with so much effort disappears?
But it is not yet too late, there are exactly two years left to achieve your goal before that happens.
It is in your hands to recover your freedom and tranquility and the well-being and future of your entire family.
Don’t let your grandmother get angry because you did not try everything available and within your reach to live with stability in this country. Make her proud of you, wherever she is.
Let’s talk again and now, yes, let’s get down to work.
